In Memoriam

The Delaware Library Association honors the following members and librarians who have sadly passed on. We are so honored to have worked with you. Thank you for your dedication to DLA and for your advocacy for Delaware Libraries.

Susan Brynteson: Age 89, passed away on May 26, 2026. Susan worked in the libraries of University of Wisconsin (later receiving Distinguished Alumna Award), San Diego State University, and Skidmore College. Susan subsequently worked at the University of Massachusetts, University of Tennessee, Indiana University, and lastly as the Director of Libraries at the University of Delaware (UD), where she retired from in 2015. Barbara Walters: Age 62, passed away on May 14, 2025. Barbara worked for the New Castle County Library System and was a member of the Delaware Library Association and the DLA Social Justice Committee. Read Walters’ obituary here. 

Jeffrey Ferris: Age 80, passed away December 3, 2024. A professional librarian by training, Jeff began his career at Wilmington Library and spent over 20 years with New Castle County Libraries, retiring in 2003 as the director of the Kirkwood Highway and Elsmere Libraries.
