Project
Hagley Library is seeking a part-time project cataloger for one year to catalog 60 linear feet of banking history documents that date from the time of the American Revolution to the early 21st century. Formats include pamphlets, monographs, serials, broadsides, and ephemera. The project also entails a systematic review of complementary Library holdings to ensure the bibliographic and structural integrity of legacy materials.
Duties
• Compare collection items against existing library holdings.
• Provide original and complex copy-cataloging using the local integrated library system (EOS.Web), OCLC Connexion Client, and the Office 365 suite.
• Enhance legacy MARC records to reflect current holdings and cataloging standards.
• Verify authority of access points by name (personal and corporate) and subject (or form/genre).
• Supply metadata related to provenance, subject matter, and genre.
• Assess physical condition and work with conservation staff to provide appropriate housing for each item as part of a special collection.
• Communicate progress through periodic reports and a final news article.
Qualifications
• Master’s degree from an ALA-accredited school, or equivalent.
• Two or more years of experience applying:
o DCRM and RDA descriptive content standards;
o MARC structural standards in the books and serials formats;
o LC name and subject authorities.
• Experience processing rare library materials, special collections or archives.
• Familiarity with American financial history.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively to meet organizational goals for description and access.
• Ability to sustain sedentary computer work and to move containers weighing up to 30 pounds.
Employment
The Project Cataloger will report to the Head of Technical Services and work in concert with the Technical Services Librarian. The project will entail one year of service at 17.5 hours per week at a rate of $27 per hour. Applications will be reviewed starting September 1, 2024 until the position is filled.
