Mentor/Mentee Pilot Program

This upcoming year, 2024 -2025, will be launching a new DLA Mentor/Mentee Pilot Program! This is an exciting opportunity to create a larger community within DLA (and outside of it) and help librarians and library staff gain skills that they need to be successful in their libraries. We are looking for potential Mentors and Mentees!

If you are looking to connect and network with a Delaware librarian who has been working in the field for several years – please consider signing up! This program is designed to address questions brought up by you about areas of librarianship you want to learn more about. Finding it hard to come up with conversation starters – no problem! We provide monthly talking points to help get the conversation started. We strive to connect you with a mentor who can speak about areas that you are interested in! That could be collection development, work/life balance, applying to grants, communication just to name a few areas.
How long does the program last? The official program will start in October 2024 and will run monthly through June 2025.
What is the time commitment for this program? Although it is a monthly commitment, the meeting times/dates are determined by you and your mentor. Mentees will also attend three cohort meetings in October, January, and April to build community among us. Mentors are not expected to attend these meetings.
When are applications due? This is not a rolling program, although applications will be accepted throughout the year. Mentee applications are due by September 6, 2024.
Do I have to be a member of DLA? No, mentees do not need to be members of DLA, but mentors do.
To learn more about expectations, requirements, and potential areas that could be covered, please read the Guidelines documentation. You can also find potential topics that you might discuss or address with your mentee/mentor. In order to apply to be a mentee, please fill out this application. To apply to be a mentor, please fill out this application.
