Public Library Division 2016 Library Passport Program

Update 4/18/16:

We hope you’re continuing to explore Delaware public libraries and are keeping the PLD Library Passport Program in mind.  There are just two weeks left to send in your entries for the drawings.  So, you still have time to visit more libraries.

Entries for the 2016 PLD Library passport program drawings must be received by May 2nd.  You can submit your entries online or via transit.  Instructions are in the below email and in the passport booklet.

The drawing will take place during the PLD business meeting at the MLA/DLA conference.  You do not need to be present to win.

Please note two corrections to library information in the passport:

  • The address for the Delaware City Library is 250 5th Street, Delaware City, DE.
  • The correct hours for the Bridgeville library are Monday to Friday 10 am – 7 pm and Saturday 10 am – 3 pm.

Please let me know if you have any questions or comments.

Thanks,
Rose Harrison
President, Public Library Division of the Delaware Library Association

The Delaware Library Passport program provides an incentive for you to explore neighboring and distant Delaware public libraries and to be inspired by the many ways our public libraries interact with our patrons.  It encourages you to see Delaware libraries from a patron’s perspective, to broaden your sense of our statewide library community, and to use your observations and suggestions to improve your patrons’ experiences.

To participate, visit one or all of the Delaware public libraries.  At the library, walk around, note the environment, look at signage, and see how items are displayed.  Take time to explore as a patron and not as a library worker/volunteer.  Use the online catalog and locate an item on the library’s shelves and go through the check-out process.  To enter the drawings, you must be a DLA member, a library staff person, or a library volunteer.  Your proof of visit will be either your checkout receipt or a picture of the library posted to Twitter or Instagram using the hashtag #PLDpassport and identifying the library.  In your Passport booklet or online at http://www.tinyurl.com/PLDpassport record your observations and offer some constructive suggestions.  (Printed submissions should be sent via transit to Delaware Division of Libraries, Attn:  Rose Harrison.  If you print the attached Passport, print double sided and flip on the short edge.)  Entries must be received by May 2, 2016.

For your time and your comments, the PLD will be raffling off two prizes at the MLA/DLA conference in May: a 1 year DLA membership and a Wawa gift certificate.  Each library you visit earns you a ticket in the raffle.  The more libraries you visit, the more times you’re entered into the raffle and the more chances you’ll have to win.  So get visiting and good luck!!

Challenge yourself to visit libraries you’ve never been to before.  Some of them may be a distance away from you, so coordinate with friends and coworkers and take a road trip.  Enjoy your adventure!

More information, including public library locations and hours, is available in the attached Passport.  Please share this program with library workers, Friends, Board members, and volunteers who may not have received this message.  If you have any questions or comments, please send them to rose.harrison@lib.de.us
