Job Description
Library Assistant-Circulation
(A Part Time Position)
This position is responsible for performing Circulation Department procedures which ensure quality customer service and the smooth, effective flow of the library materials, along with maintaining the public service image of the library.
Duties
The person in this position is required to master a wide variety of tasks including, but not limited to, circulation desk procedures. These include checking books in and out, answering patrons’ questions, assisting with the use of the library catalog and computers, collecting fines, issuing cards to patrons, and assisting patrons with photocopying. Also necessary is the ability to master automated circulation functions, good organizational and oral communication skills, flexibility, a genuine enjoyment of the public, and the ability to handle stressful situations. Employees must be willing to work days, evenings, holidays and weekends as the library schedule may require.

Place holds for patrons
Shelve books
Shelf Read ~ assure the books are in Dewey Decimal Classification and/or alphabetical order on the shelves
Required Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
This position requires the following physical abilities: to handle, lift, move library materials up to 25lbs, to stand at a computer terminal for up to 4 hours, to operate a keyboard, to wheel book carts up to 125lbs and to stand, sit, walk, stoop and reach within confined areas.
Familiarity with computers and databases is necessary.
Familiarity with the Internet and how to perform basic searches and use a keyboard is required.
The person in this position performs additional duties as assigned.
A high school diploma or equivalency is required.
This position reports to the Circulation Supervisor
